the sadomachists of singaporean soccer.

i am not sure if i have entirely qualified to write about singapore soccer. after all, i don’t keep close track of the national team or the s-league. i even went to sleep before the jordan vs singapore match ended. but as a singaporean, i suppose i have full right to write about my own national team.

once again, singapore football has disappointed. you would think that a berth in the asian cup would be incentive enough for the team to play better. but no. passes went no where, we lost the ball easily and there was no ‘hunger’ in the team. granted, playing in windy unfamiliar conditions could have been a huge deterrent. granted, head coach raddy complains that singaporeans do not show up enough to support their own local team. but with constant dismal performances like the one last night, the singapore national team has to prove they can perform before they will receive the support and help they have been asking for. remember the game against thailand at the national stadium? there was so much hype in trying to get singaporeans to come down to support the team. all it ended in was a bitter 1-3 defeat. hell, thank goodness someone up there had the common sense to drop goal 2010 when they realized no way in this generation were we ever going to to go to the world cup.

yet, there are a few fans that support the national team fervently. i really admire these folks, for they can take the pain and agony of their team losing and letting the nation down time and time again. the pain of a loss is not easily displaced, and to constantly experience this pain in the minute chance of victory is excruciating. this are the fans who would trot down faithfully every week to catch their favourite s-league team play, something i absolutely cannot fathom, especially with the poor standard of play.

its like the S&M (minus the kinky bits) you know that it is going to be hurt, but you still watch it and hope it will be good. unfortunately, you don’t feel happy most of the time after.

singapore football better pray these fans don’t lose their belief. because if they do, there will be no hope left for local football.

ronaldo just pawned roma's head for 243 gold! man utd is owning!!!!!!

just a little inside joke me and my dota friends have.

Roma’s goalie and what he is really thinking after letting in all those goals.

Totti and Co Sian 1/2 after 6-0.

we have this little inside joke on dota regarding everytime a hero is gangbanged or backstabbed a little speech bubble appears on top of his head with the words “hong gan”.

that must be what roma must be thinking after losing 7-1 to manchester united in the theatre of dreams.

but for us man utd fans,

gg!

audio kicks.

on saturday, kumar and i headed to opera estate where we heard that some batch of ’03 guys from TJ were playing soccer regularly there. and lo and behold, there were all the old kakis we used to play with during our time in tj. it was sort of like a reminiscence game as we had not played with many of these guys since 2004. some of the key opponents from our time were there as well… it was much better then playing with random opponents at the street soccer court whom you do not know. i look forward to this saturday when we will play again. come to think about it, i look forward to every saturday nowadays.

i had to cut my game short as i had to attend the electronic music production course at sae singapore at 1200. so i left the court at 1100 (even then i was still late)

the first was rather dry; the theory of sound and various genres of music. basically it was a full theory lesson, and i fell asleep like for 5 mins partially due to the tiredness from the beginning. i think during that time i was sleeping, i missed out a pretty important part about EQ. great. i am looking forward the coming lesson now though, where we will get a hands on lesson in reason. yay!

during the break in the lesson, i went off to the nearby sunshine plaza a while and i spotted a limited edition final form sora from kingdom hearts 2. having a soft spot for these kind of figurines (and knowing that it is limited edition), i bought it and now it is standing nicely at my desk at home, together with auron (whose leg joints is broken, natural defect thats why i got it cheap) next on the list is balthier from ffxii!

on monday, my boss asked me to remember what i have learnt from my internship so far and list down what i want to learn. well i have learnt:
- that as a PR company, you are some sort like a middle man, you do a lot of legwork
- what are press releases and press advisories
- that i have to talk slower over the phone
- that in emails your main topic has to be in the first few lines for your email
- that getting sponsorship is not easy
- research!

the soccer labyrinth.

i am currently at work. why am i so free? i am waiting for a few calls to come in. so in the mean time, i will just blog a bit.

singapore beat laos 11-0 on monday. it is obviously a fantastic result for singapore football. noh alam shah with 7 goals. however, the opposition IS laos. only tonight, when they play indonesia in a must draw/win game will the lions true colours show. or not.

yesterday i was at taekwondo, i realised my standards are really poor. possibly because of my lengthy layoff aka ns from training. i pale largely in comparison with the black belts who are younger than me. there is also a tinge of politics in the taekwondo field, which i would not comment here. i prefer to take a non intrusive approach to matters that do not concern me.

on saturday, kumar, chuan, wenjie and siyuan (i will from this blog post thereafter refer to them as ‘the guys’) played soccer at the simpang bedok court again. there were about 5 teams there with a goal cap to win each game. after losing the first match 2-0 (getting my glasses bent to an awkward angle for saving a goal with my face and letting in a horrifying backpass goal), jeremy tan (jermaine tan’s brother) joined us. and boy. did he inspire us.

he single handedly helped the team go a 5 game 2-0 streak. his play was almost cheeky, scoring from the halfway line a couple of times right after kickoff. in turn, he inspired the rest of the guys to score at least one goal a piece. there were a group of malays there as well who were intent to put us down after we beat them 2-0 twice in a row. complete spoilsports. the most surprising thing i guess was that a team with 4 people requested me to help them out in goal. if you don’t know this by now, i play the keeper in our street soccer team (a non glorious position, yet important by all accounts) kumar likened it to an epl team loaning out their keeper off season to another club. i didn’t really do well for them though. left the court with cuts and bruises to my leg, as always. and another sprained thumb, this time my left thumb. so i have 2 sprained thumbs now. cute.

in the afternoon, we caught another movie. this time it was pan’s labyrinth, a spanish movie. the story is set in 1940′s spain. although the papers rated it as great, i found the movie to be a bad mismash of fantasy and history. not that the acting was bad. it was good on the whole, just that the combination was just a tad strange for me.

in the night, all of us except chuan (who finds watching singapore matches a waste of time), went to the national stadium to watch singapore host vietnam. disappointing match that. to end the day, we caught man u thrashing aston villa 3-1 at simpang.

at least my weekends have some sort of routine to it again. oh well.

Singapore vs China

i am currently at the national stadium watching singapore play china. The score at halftime is 0-0. Currently there is a chinaman walking around the stadium with a china flag which is causing a commotion in the stadium. The atmosphere is great here. Even little kids are shouting out jeers. The match is restarting soon… Here is to a good 2nd half.
